5 Things to Shoot in Autumn

Autumn is here! The days are becoming colder and cloudy skies are shadowing the sun. I'm looking forward to chestnuts (smash 'em, mash 'em, jum!) and dipping biscuits into warm tea. What to shoot in fall? Here are a few ideas for this year's season:

1. LEAVES Really, I know you knew I'd say this, but think about it! There are so many pretty leaves and their colours can vary from green, orange, yellow and brown on the same tree! Nature is sometimes pretty amazing. The foliage looks its best during a period of about ten days (proven! I've missed it for two years in a row!) so it's best to have a general idea for the photos before that time comes.

2. FOG Morning fogs are literally the best thing EVER. Although it can be so hard getting up early in the morning, the effort will definitely pay off. You can't beat breaking dawn on a foggy day, it's a real eye candy!

3. RAIN After the hottest summer in the last few years (or even a decade!), it's time for refreshment. I love shooting in the rain, although it can make real damage to your photo gear, so it's very important to take good care of it (this can range from cheap solutions like a plastic camera sleeve to 30-100$ worth professional waterproof fabric). One trick is to stay in a dry place (under a balcony or porch) and have the model go a few meters in front if it to stand in the rain. Remember to have a towel and a warm blanket with you for the model to use after the shoot!

4. SKY Grey skies are perfect for a moody dark theme, so incorporating them in the photo can make a real difference to the story you've got in mind. I usually take three photos with bracketing and add some darker tones to the sky in Photoshop.

5. MORNING DEW Another option perfect for early risers, but also one beautiful reason to get up in the morning for shoots.
