(Un)familiar Faces - illustration project

I have always been interested in people’s stories. During commutes in my hometown, I would sometimes see the same faces all over and over again.

I even remembered some from years ago, back when I as a kid going to school.

Looking at these people day by day gives you a strange sense of familiarity. You might not have ever spoken and perhaps you never will, but their constant presence is what makes the city commute just the way it is.

I had that thought lingering in my head when I first took my sketchbook with me.

Let me give you some context:
My city Pula is a tourist place. It is known for its beaches, festivals and rich history. Comes winter, however, and it turns into a ghost town. You can be standing in the middle of the main Roman square at 5PM without anyone else in sight.

I wanted to create a series of illustrations that will represent the city in a different way than showing monuments and sights of the seaside.

These people make the city the way it is. Here are some of them:
